S.C.O.P.E. 2003

S.C.O.P.E. is just around the corner again, and its time to start your planning. If you haven’t heard of SCOPE , aside from the mouthwash, then read on. If you are an old hat at this, you can skip the description.

S.C.O.P.E. originated in Canada’s Centennial year of 1967, thus the name: Scouts Centennial Ontario Pennsylvania Expedition, when 541 Canadian Scouts visited the USA. The Canadian Scouts returned the hospitality when 800 Boy Scouts of America visited Boyd Conservation Area in 1968. S.C.O.P.E. has continued in this fashion every 4 years, with the next cycle being 2003/2004.

S.C.O.P.E. is a unique scouting experience which will enable our Scouts/Venturers/Rovers to become part of a Pennsylvania family and Scout Troop in May 2003, attending school and camping with their fellow Scouts/Venturers/Rovers. In 2004, the Americans will be visiting us and joining our families and Troops/Companies/Crews.

S.C.O.P.E. is much more than a great camp of 800+ Scouts. Each of our Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and Leaders will billet with an American youth or leader and the youth will attend school for one day with their hosts. Each one of them becomes a member of an American Scout Troop and family for the weekend. Lasting friendships have developed and all have a most rewarding experience.

As an example – Scope 2000 was held at Brampton Flying Club. The “campfire” was a rock concert in an aircraft hanger, activities included rock climbing, rifle shooting. Click here for Great Pictures of past S.C.O.P.E. Weekends!!!

The high level program for 2003 is:

Thursday: Canadian youth and leaders travel to Pennsylvania by bus, will be met by their hosts family, and go to the host’s home for supper.

Friday: Youth go to school, leaders set up camp. Youth arrive at camp in the evening.

Saturday Extraordinary activities.

Sunday: Break camp early and spend the day sightseeing with host. Stay overnight at host’s house.

Monday: Travel back to Canada in buses.

The cost per person for S.C.O.P.E. 2003 is estimated to be $175.00 - $200.00, (which includes camp, food, and transportation) but this may vary slightly up or down depending on the Canadian Dollar. Of course, all participants must be fully registered members of Scouts Canada.

In order to plan such a large event, we need to get input now on who will be participating, so we ask you to complete the INTENT FORM and mail it back to:

Bryan Cowell
Director of Administration, SCOPE 2003
6933 Shelter Bay Road
Mississauga, ON
L5N 1T9

or

Answer the same questions in an email and send to: Scope 2003

We will then get more information out to those troops/companies/crews that express an INTENT in September. Actual registrations at that time will be taken on a first come, first served basis. In the mean time, if you have any questions about S.C.O.P.E. 2003, then please call or email one of the Committee members listed above.
